Hi,

Anyone know the settings in the BIOS I have to change in order to boot from
an IBM Microdrive that I have in an internal 8 in 1 card reader attached to
my P4P800 D via a USB cable on the second mobo USB connector?

I have tried changing the P4P800 BIOS settings both to Floppy and to FDD for
the USB device but it is failing to read my Microdrive at boot - my aim was
to replace my conventional floppy - no longer in my PC - with this USB 8 in
1 card reader.

Any thoughts,

John.

I also wanted to replace my external memory card ready with a bay unit
when building this new system. I contemplated not having a floppy
drive at all, but was a little hesitant in case I needed it for BIOS
updates or driver installs when installing Windows.

I ended up getting a "Y-E Data Internal 7-In-1 Floppy/Digital Media
Writer." It has all of the usb memory readers plus a floppy drive
which attaches with the standard floppy cable. Making the BIOS changes
you described above enables me to boot from the floppy. If your unit
is USB only, I don't think you can boot from it.

Thanks Kevin, I have come to the same conclusion that I cannot boot from
this device and will have to buy a floppy. Actually, VERY underimpressed
with this eMagic reader as the microdrive slot is so tight it does not eject
the MD far enough and I have to resort to using a pair of pilers to gently
grasp the edges of the MD to remove it.

I wasn't aware that these multiple format drives existed until I saw
the one I bought at the local CompUSA store. It seems to work pretty
well with the CF cards that I use. These stick out quite a bit so they
are easy to grasp to remove. I can't speak for the other media, but I
presume they are also easily removed. I'm not sure where you reside,
but I noticed that NewEgg.com has quite a selection of these types of
devices.
