I bought a Thermaltake Xaser III Supertower, with the LCD display that
displays CPU temp. The temp probe goes under the cpu, and it seems to work,
but the motherboard reports one temp, and the display reports another.
Which temp is correct? Motherboard reports 42 degrees C, while the dispaly
report 49 degrees C.

I was just reading an article yesterday (sorry, I don't remember where it
was) that explained that on the P4C800 the temperature reported is not the
actual CPU die temperature, but rather some sort of average temerature
across the heatsink or something like that. I was looking for something else
when I saw this article so I didn't pay too much attention and the details
are fuzzy, but my point is that the difference is probably due to the fact
that your temp probe is measuring the CPU die temp and the motherboard is
reporting something a little different. If I find the article again I'll
update this post.
