Can someone illuminate me on how the drives are assigned letters when
connecting the drives to the SATA connectors?

It used to be so easy to identify which drive was which on the Parallel
ribbon. Now I cannot figure out which one will be which when installing the
OS.

Thank you

Depends on what you do with them I guess. Are they just stand alone drives,
striped or shadowed?

Here's how mine worked out.

SATA 1 & 2 = C: (two 36GB raptors striped, with two partitions)
D:

Promise 1 & 2 E: (two 200GB IDE striped, one partition)
out of commission with one dead drive right
now
guess I should have shadowed instead of
stripped 8-(

I'm just using them as a primary/secondary drive type situation. With the OS
being installed on one, and all my important data backed up on the second.

I have two identical Maxtor 250GB drives which makes it tough to
differentiate between the two. Otherwise I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to
figure out.

When I ran the Maxtor drive configuration utility it assigned the drives
names. I'm trying to figure out which drive gets what designation.

I found the answer. I guess the Maxtor utilities assigns the drive names
based upon the SATA connection that they are attached to.
