I just installed on a fresh formatted SCSI HardDisk Windows Xp that is
running on my P4C800 875P Deluxe,

The whole process went perfect.

Now when i want to connect my backup IDE disk,
The option to boot from SCSI dissapears,
only FLOPPYDISK - CDROM and the NEW ID disk are listed, and there is
no way to find back the SCSI disk

Did anyone has a solution for that ?

Thanx , Luca Dalpozzo

you'll find that by attaching your backup hdd to an ata pci controller card
you'll still have your scsi boot drive.
put the scsi card in a slot that's below the ata controller card so that
it'll be seen first at bootup.
for me, ata card slot 4 & scsi card slot 5.
cheers

Why go to all that trouble, all you need to do is go into the bios and choose
your boot order.

My backup harddisk is not a ATA disk , but a IDE disk,

I did try to put the IDE disk on bought IDE 1 and IDE 2, master or
slave. but no difference, my SCSI is not comming back in the list of
"boot devices" in the BIOS when the IDE disk is connected.

I did update the BIOS from motherboard and SCSI

Thanks for the info, but no solutions here

the ata pci controller card is for ide devices.
I use an old promise ultra100 ata pci controller card & also have a zip
drive attached to it.
cheers

So there is no solution with that ATA pci controller, i need to buy
this to get my IDE disk to work ? that is a bit crazy , no ? ???

Don't have the P4C rather the P4P800Dlx... but noted that your board also
uses the AMI Bios chip. On mine choosing the boot device isn't quite as
straight forward as one would like!

Under boot there are several settings - one for boot order and the other for
hard drives. I have found that you must first pick the proper HD as HD0 or
first drive then it appears as a boot option. It tends to default to IDE0
when on is present.

I have 3 physical HDs attached to my system: Master IDE, Master Slave and
VIA RAID0 on it's own controler. To boot from the RAID drive I first have
to go into the HD selection and choose the VIA HD as the first drive (by
hitting enter on the 1st choice and choosing from the 3 drives listed) then
in the boot section just above the VIA Raid drive is displayed as a boot
option.

If I don't do "Step 1" then the only drives available will be Floppy, (what
ever HD is listed as the first choice) and (what ever CDROM is the first -
yes those too) CD.

To my mind kind of a "nutty" system, but once you figure it out it does have
all of the options - just takes more steps!

Good Luck,
Len

THANK U LEN; THAT IS THE SOLUTION !!!!

i feel stupid i did never discover that myself !
