Hello thanks for looking. I'm about to build a new machine and have decided
on another p4 setup.
Was thinking of this board (P4C800) as I'm after SATA stripe setup / dual
channel DDR and the 3.2 to sit happily within.

Can anyone confirm this boards performance with reference to these needs?

any opinions gratefully recieved.

Many Thanks.

I am asking this question because some SCSI RAID controllers will work only
in 64 bit PCI slots (some are backwards compatible with 32 bit slots, but
not all are). And, in general (with both ASUS and non-ASUS motherboards),
how can I determine if the slots are 32 bit or 64 bit? Many times the specs
don't tell me. Is there perhaps a utility than can make that determination?

All of the slots are 32 bit. It is in the manual and on the product
spec sheet at www.asus.com. A 64 bit pci slot is longer than a 32 bit
pci slot. Some 64 bit cards can be used in 32 bit slots. Check with
vendor for details.

The best place to look for this information is the vendor web
site. Do you have certain combination with certain specs? Then post
here because someone maybe using that combination.

Good luck.

Yup, you are correct. I just did a search for '32 bit' and found the answer
in the manual. Interesting that the 64 bit slots are longer. I've built a
lot of systems, and looked at a lot of PCI slots. I think I would have
noticed if a slot was clearly longer. Possibly I have never seen a 64 bit
slot. Do any non-server motherboards have 64 bit slots?

It is true that some 64 bit RAID cards will work in 32 bit slots, but it is
not always easy to find out. Some of the Adaptec RAID cards clearly
indicate, but other vendors may not. Thanks for the response, I appreciate
it.
