Hello All,

Here is what I intend to be my next computer.

Asus P4C800 Deluxe
ATI Radeon 9800 128Mb
Western Digital 200Gig 2Mb Cache
Pioneer DVR-A05 DVD-R
Combo Liteon 48x/24x/48x DVD 16x
Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 Dolby Digital
Chenming #601AE Aluminium Case [ 450W ]

Kingston Dimm 512Mb DDR 400Mhz PC3200
Part # KVR400X64C25/512

Now the part that I'm not sure about,
Asus list these DIMM's on there web site,
but only using 2 of them. and on the Kingston
site they say that up to 2Gig can be used at 400Mhz

So who's is right ????

I need the 2 Gig of memory, I do play some games, but
my main use is Cad/Cam..

Regards,

Louis Raymond

I had some confusion over that until I did a google search of the
archives a couple of days ago.Search criteria was: "P4C800 memory".
Found this,and more:

I'm fairly new to this group..seems this and similar topics have been
hashed over several times the last few weeks.Probably why I didn't get
anyone to answer my post.

You should research the P4C800-E. It's newer, and hopefully there may be
less issues with it.

I have a similar setup, memory(HyperX, KHX3200/512 and same board, P4C800
Deluxe, configuration. I am only using 2 sticks. I have been reassured
that as long as I buy exactly the same sticks, for the other 2 slots I
should have no problem with the Dual Channel. This is by Kingston, not
Asus. From Asus, as far as I know the earlier Asus BIOSs didn't support the
full memory layout. I suppose they needed a learning curve to adapt things.
However the more recent Beta drivers do, from what I have read. I have been
giving alot of thought to upgrading to the E model. It is newer, this is
correct. But I am not affected much by the changes. As I only connect thru
the Internet thru a 56k modem. I have no need for the more expensive
onboard NIC card, or the more expensive ICH5R southbridge. There's no way in
hell, I will see much southbridge saturation at 56k. Haha! It'll be along
time before I see glass lines in my neck of the woods.

I am concerned about S-ATA being piped thru the PCI. Seems odd to pipe a
150 S-ATA line into a 133 PCI Promise controller, but in the grand scheme of
things, I imagine they figured on giving us the option. But unless you plan
on filling out the S-ATA slots(4), you won't have to worry much. Because
Asus has provided 2 S-ATA slots which do not go thru the PCI, as far as I
know. I plan to plug 2 Raptors into these. So I'll only use the PCI
controller for my DVD/CDs, so that conflict shouldn't arrise.

I'm in the process of purchasing a case with 4 USB front jacks, to take
advantage of those extra 4 USBs on the board. But this is the same with
both E and D. Unless the E supplies ya with cables, I can tell you for free
that the D skimps on the cabling. IMHO, if they are gonna give me a USB,
WiFi jack they owe it to me to supply me with a cable, too. Look at all the
goods LanParty i875 supplied, for less. It's just an unexceptable marketing
plea. I really don't need a WiFi jack, but I'm stuck with it.

BTW, you won't need that Creative SB Live 5.1 card, the memory card onboard
is as good or better, IMHO. Save yourself an IRQ ;-) And if you use lotsa
fans, its prolly better to use less cards for greater incase airflow. Does
your Chenming have a snorkle hole? ;-)

I'd be willing to compare Sandra Benches with ya, if and when you get your
system configured. I am still awaiting parts here. ;-)
