I did not express one of my problems well. If I have 80 pin drives and 40
pin connectors on the mobo is there jumpers or such?

All drives is 40 pin. All connectors is 40 pin.
 
To supply a bit more information than another poster:

The connectors are the same for 40 and 80 wire cables. The extra 40 wires on
an 80 conductor cable are all grounds (for shielding purposes).

On many 80 wire cables, the end that plugs into the IDE controller is a
different color than the others. (Blue is common.)

The trick is, an 80 wire cable has 40 pin connectors on the ends, and
the extra 40 wires are connected to GND. That is done to improve
signal quality, and allows data to move faster without being corrupted
as it moves down the cable.

The ATA/ATAPI standard has some software methods that can be used
to recognize what kind of cable is being used. The software method
is not foolproof, but will generally do the right thing. Basically,
if you use a 40 wire cable, you will be prevented from using the
fastest transfer rates. That is acceptable for optical disk drives,
but you might not appreciate it if it happens to a hard drive.

The 80 wire cable might also be constructed to support cable select,
if you choose to use that option.

I didn't really like the cables that Asus provided, so if they
are not in the box, it is not a big loss. Just drop down to the
store and pick up some new ones.
