Getting this board with a 2.8Ghz, 800FSB Intel.

what's a good ram recommendation? I usually buy Kingston ValueRam, but
I've heard this isn't good w/ this mobo.

I'm using 2 x 512mb Corsair Value Select without any issues. You can of
course buy the more expensive XMS etc. but I'm not a huge overclocker so the
VS does me fine.

I have 2x512MB DDR400 Kingston 1G Kit

Model KVR400X64C3AK2/1G

In same board/proc, found the kit would allow me to use Asus OC utility in
BIOS,
and raise 5% while staying in DDR400 Dual-channel mode, (2.95Ghz)
if you raise %10 to break the 3Ghz barrier, these particular modules drop to
DDR266

Bob

Can you explain some more about the Kingston Value Ram please?

I'm running 2 x 512Gb PC 3200 - working in Dual DDR 400 Mode - 2 x
KVR400X64C3A/51's - in this mobo but I'm now suspecting somethings not quite
right with my system as I'm getting BSOD's and random freezes. If you can
point me to something about this Ram in a newsgroup or a forum somewhere, I
would very much appreciate it. Like you I trust Kingston Value Ram, never
had a problem with it, so as I'm trying to eliminate what's wrong with my
setup I would like to eliminate the Ram that's at fault. I'm about to run
memtest86 to check my ram out but help in the mean time would be good.

BTW I'm running 2 RAID 0 ATA drive setups one for my OS and one for
storage/archiving.

TIA Paul

Me? Nothing to explain. I've always used KVR... I just thought I'd
read on here that most people don't buy KVR for this board... maybe
i'm mistaken. i just want to spend up front and get what will work
best.

Bob,

Check my post on Micron/Crucial RAM:

I know there has been some discussion on which memory modules are
qualified to run 4x in dual channel Asus Motherboards.

I recently bought 2 Crucial CT6464Z40B 512Mb modules for my new
P4C800E motherboard. Even though these Crucial modules aren't on
either of the Asus QVLs for DDR 400 RAM I decided to gamble on them
since the chips would be Micron and these might be the same ones
listed on the QVL.

When I received my modules I noticed that they had both a Crucial and
Micron part numbers on them. The Micron module part number
(MT16VDDT6464AG-40BC) matched the one on the Asus QVL. The individual
Chip number (46V32M8TG-5BC) also matched the Asus QVL.

So it looks like thes modules have been qualified by Asus to run 4x in
Asus dual channel motherboards. I only bought a pair of modules so I
can't actually test the theory but if you are looking for 2Mb of dual
channel RAM this would probably be a good place to start.

Good Luck,

Steve

P.S. Does anyone know if the Crucial modules are a "selected" version
of Micron's regular modules or just an extra label?
