I have reflashed my bios with the latest and greatest from ASUS for my
computer hanging on the splash screen after the SP2 update. Everything went
well but I cannot get the bios or the OS to see my hard drives. I have a
couple of WD Serial drives connected, using the stripe 0 array and
everything has been fine for about a year...up until I installed the SP2.

After hours of research and finding out my MOBO needed a bios flash to be
compatible with SP2, I still cannot get my computer to boot. Only goes to
the BIOS screen and in set up the BIOS is not recognizing the hard drives.

When I boot from the XP disk and try to run set-up, install the FASTRAK378
utiility, windows will not recognize the hard drives and let me boot any
further.

Please help me get this straightened around as I really need this computer.

Mark -- I had zero difficulty and issues with SP-2 and am running RAID 0
with this motherboard--but I had, during the original install, disabled the
Promise Controller since it used the slower PCI bus and utilized the Intel
Controller--also used the 1016 BIOS and did not update to the 1017 since the
system was and is stable. Can I assume that, since you are using the
Fastrack378 utlity that you are using the Promise Controller?? Wonder what
would happen if you connected your SATA RAID 0 drives to the Intel headers
and loaded the Intel chipset utility as well as went into the BIOS and set
it up for RAID and then went into the RAID BIOS and configured it??? Good

I looked at an old and a new BIOS, and they both are using 1.00.0.37
RAID BIOS for the 20378. About the only thing I could suggest, other
than reverting to your original BIOS and disabling L1/L2, so you can
back out of SP2, is to try the "clear the CMOS" procedure.

To clear the CMOS, remember to unplug the computer first. This
removes +5VSB from the motherboard (no green LED on the motherboard),
and makes it safe to use the CLRTC jumper. See manual for details.

If it succeeds, you'll need to redo your settings, like even set
up the clock in the BIOS again. The BIOS clock gets its time from
the RTC.

I am back up and running again as something must have gone havoc on the
first bios reflash. The first time I reflashed everything went well but when
I was done message came up about "lump sum not complete" or something to
that effect. I didn't really pay much attention to it, but for some reason
after several more hours of distress, I just thought I would try and reflash
again as so many people had their machine up and running after a reflash.

I really do thank the you people who take the time to help complete
strangers. I honestly mean that !!

Thanks to you guys for your support and good advice. (and not being
critical)
