I have a P4C800-E with 1024MB memory (2-512MB). When I run Memtest86+ V1.11
(r older versions), the test will freeze and stop running. It freezes at
very nearly the same poing each time, about half way through test 6. No
errors are ever displayed. I must reboot the system to get it going again.

Thinking there was something wrong with one of the memory modules, I removed
them and ran them alone one at a time. Mentest86 still freezes at the same
poing, half way through test 6.

When I run Microsoft Windows memory test, it completes without error, ran
for 20 passes without error.

I'm thinking there must be an incompatability between the P4C800-E and
Memtest86. Has anyone ran this test, and what were the results.

I also found that physically unplugging all USB devices (e.g., printers,
UPSes) during the test also works. In the case of my Enermax UPS, disabling
legacy USB support in the BIOS was (apparently) not sufficient.
The UPS would send asyncronous USB packets about 1/sec and that causes
memtest to randomly hang, most likely in test 4 or 6.

Thanks so much! Disabling the USB legacy did the trick. It was set on AUTO,
I changed it to Disable.

This was bugging me so much, I was up almost all night playing with it.
After reading your post, I finally got some sleep.

The first time I turned on the computer, after assembly, I ran Memtest86 and
it passed 4 passes without error. At that time, USB legacy support was set
on AUTO, BUT there were no USB devices plugged in.

Last night when I tried running it I had a USB mouse plugged in, and it
wouldn't run. On AUTO it must be disabled if no USB devices are detected.

Does anyone know why Memtest86 won't run if USB legacy is enabled?
