P4C800-E deluxe, Intel PRO 1000 poor upload.

I get approx 20-50% upload speed (acc. to taskmon) at 100mbit (connection
speed) with the built in NIC, and the graph is very "sawtoth"
When i download i get the expected 80% and a perfectly flat network graph.
CPU usage is always very low, 0-3%.
I've tried different switches, x-over cable, different cables, and still the
same result.
I must be missing a setting somewhere, right ?

Try a Google search on the four terms "tcp/ip window high bandwidth".
TCP/IP is a reliable protocol and acknowledgement packets have to
be sent at regular intervals. The window size determines how many
packets can be in flight and unacknowledged, before the transmitter
will stop sending. Considering the processor has to generate the
ACK packets, you have to wait for the processor to context switch
and "answer the phone", before more stuff can be sent.

What OS? If Windows 2000 and XP, consider using the drivers
that can be downloaded from Intel.
