Hi,

I just ordered another SATA 120GB drive to take advantage the RAID
capabilities of my motherboard. As I already have XP install, will
I need to format and start over from scratch or can I build the raid
set with the OS in place?

Also, is RAID 0 even worth it? What kind of speed gain will I see?

Any input is appreciated.

What kind of things do you use your PC for? For 'office' type
stuff, then all you'd notice was it takes (say) 2 rather than 3 minutes
to boot. If you edit video or photo's then it may help, but not as
much as filling your PC with as much RAM as the motherboard
will support.

IMHO: unless you are running specific applications such as video editing you
are not likely to see a tangible improvement in performance. You might
witness a slight decrease in windows boot time - that is about the only
visible difference that is easily measurable, but how often do you reboot?
20 times an Hour?

You more than double the probability of data-loss by using RAID 0 as loss of
either disc = loss of the RAID volume.
This is its huge downside...
