I have installed two 36 gb s-ata drives on the primary sata ports and
configured them as raid. The bios finds the drives as a raid setup during
boot but win XP will not see them when I try to install off of CD. I get an
error message that says " windows did not find any hard drives on your
system an cannot continue"

Did you hit F6 when asked for raid drivers,if you dont hit F6 the drives wont
show up.

XP does not 'know' about SATA. You need to install the SATA drivers FROM A
FLOPPY during XP's setup routine when it asks you if you want to install any
3rd Party Drivers.

You use the raid drivers, you just dont create a raid array. Also you have to
set it to boot as a SCSI instead of HDD O or HDD 1. If you dont hit F6 when it
starts the installiation it will get to the part of looking for the hard and
wont be able to find it. DOUG

You have to press F6 if you are installing XP
on any drive attached to a controller it doesn't
have drivers for, wither it's RAID or not.

SATA is not the issue. I just installed the same board with Win2K and
did not need an "F6" driver since I was not running a RAID
configuration. As far as I can tell a driver is not required just to
use SATA drives in Non-RAID configuration.

I believe that for the ICH5R primary controller you need the Intel
Application Accelerator (RAID driver). If you are on the Promise
controller you need the Promise driver. These drivers need to be
applied using the "F6" procedure. Someone who has actually done this
please correct me if I'm wrong.

XP with SP 1 has SATA support. My system would'nt see the HD when trying to
use the ICH5R controller for the SATA drive unless i hit F6, There are no SATA
controller drivers to speak of for using the controller as a BASE controller
except for the RAID drivers. you have to install the raid driver at F6 but you
dont create a raid array. The INTEL site calls the raid drivers for the
ICH5R, IAA driver version 3.5.1. DOUG
