I have a asus p4c800-E Deluxe with a Antec 550 P/S.

With the bear board connected to the P/S it will not power up. When I jumper
the power on contacts the fan shakes but does not turn on.

If I remove the 4 pin power plug the board will come up and stay up. I have
to turn it off with the p supply switch.

When I called Antec they said it had to be the Mobo. I replaced the board.
Same problem. I am going to call Antec in the morning but I wonder if anyone
had a similar problem or if someone had any ideas to try.

Tons of problems with reboots, won't power up or stay that way... after many
calls and questions online and wasted time I finally got information that it
was related to the 4 pin connector on the motherboard and the associated
plug off the powersupply. I had to can all my Antec powersupplies It is
catch as catch can as to which ones will work. Replaced powersupply: not one
single damn reboot.
It was rebooting so fast I couldn't update the bios.
The worst was a computer that someone needed to earn her living.

A fellow in here from KC Computers who reads these posts may be able to help
you.

Jim. After too many issues, I have dumpstered every Antec powersupply I
have. There is apparently some issue with the 4 prong plug on the MB and the
4 prong socket on the P.S.
God Help that I should be able to explain such things. At some point, it's
cheaper do do the powersupply merry-go-round than mess with a computer
people have to earn their living with.
So far, I agree completely with KC Computers that it's a powersupply issue.

The latest news. I have a new Mobo and a new Antec power supply and have
the same problem!

It llooks like you have a grounding prob. Maybe a short circuit between board and case.

Well, well, problem solved. After 2 rma's, hours and hours, many expletives.
I talked to Asus and they were meeting with their engineers. I decided while
they were doing that I might as well call Antec one more time. I had called
Antec and Asus at least 6 times each.
I got right through, and gave my case number. I described my problem to a
new face. What I had done was separate the 4 pin connecter from the 20 pin.
I then put the 4 pin in the only plug that could take it. Well guess what,
the tech said no don't use that connecter that is for PCI Express. He told
me to put the 4 pin with the yellow and black wires in it.

He also said they had seen this before and may need to better label the
plugs. I went back over the mobo and the power supply and in no place was
there and description of the which plug to use, just put the 12v plug into
its connecter as described by the mobo directions. No clear directions there
either.

My wife is cooking me some crow and I'll eat it tonight.
I apologize if I have wasted anyone's time.

Maybe I will prevent someone from this error.

Thanks and best regards,
Jim
