Hey To All,

I am having a strange problem loading win2k pro on this board.
The drives are as follows.
prim ide - nothing
Sec ide - zip100 master and sony 52x24x52 cdrw slave
sata1 - seagate sata drive
sata2 - nothing
promise controller - nothing and disabled.

if i leave the zip drive connected the win2k setup will see the sata drive
but it is a unknown drive and it can't be formatted but a partition can be
created.
if i disconnect the zip drive i can create the partition and format like it
should but on the reboot the sata drive will not boot the system. it just
hangs.

there is no overclocking on the board just very conservative setup with most
items set at auto.
i flashed the bios to the latest 1011
i must be missing something but i just don't know what.

any help welcomed.

thanks to all who reply.

I have the P4C800-E and I've loaded Win2K Pro and WinXP Pro on this board
couple of questions:

1. Are you booting from the CD-ROM?
2. What release of Win2K Pro are you using SP?
3. If first release or SP2 or lower, I'd suggest slipstreaming SP3 into your
Win2K disc,
I did that and it installed and saw my SATA Seagate 120G no problems.

Also make sure your SATA is on the Standard SATA headers, and not the SATA
Raid ones.

Make sure in 'Boot Priority' you list your SATA drive (IDE3) as boot, with
CD drive 2nd
Try pressing F8 when the board is posting, it should bring up a 'boot device
selection'
menu and choose your HD manually.

Yes

w2kpro spk3 oem cd

It does see the hd on the sata1 connection but will not format it.

Sata1 since it is labled as sata1 and sata2

Actually it is floppy - ide the sata drive then cdrw

I will try this.

Uhh, noticed a major difference in you & my setup after re-reading your OP

Why are you putting the zip100 & cdrw on the Secondary IDE plugin?

Mine is

Pri_IDE: Asus 52x CDRW (Master)
Pri_IDE: Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM (Slave)
Sec_IDE: Nothing
SATA1: Seagate 120G
SATA2: Nothing
Neither the IDE RAID, nor SATA RAID ports in use.

Promise controller disabled, running enhanced mode P-ATA&S-ATA

Not sure why you arent using the first ide header?
