P4C800 Deluxe: Onboard LAN keeps dropping off

I have a P4C800 Deluxe and have been using the onboard LAN for my
cable modem. But after being on for a while, it will suddenly
disconnect. As far as I can tell, it's not my cable connection. And
it's annoying since I have to reboot the whole system to get a
connection back.

Tonight I decided to drop a PCI ethernet card in and forget about the
onboard RJ45 connection. I couldn't get the PCI card to work. It came
out of another system and was working in that system. I disabled the
onboard LAN in the BIOS so there wouldn't be a conflict. Still didn't
help. Even with the onboard LAN disabled, shouldn't a PCI ethernet
card work? Or any ideas why the onboard connection drops out like it
does? So far that' my only gripe with the motherboard.Thanks.

I'm using a PCI ethernet card in my P4C800-E Delux and it works fine. Does
your card show up in the Device Manager under Network adapters? Is it
enabled and working properly?

This sounds more like a cable/dsl problem. try a place like
broadbandreports.com -- they have a monitoring service that pings your IP
every ten seconds or so.

Thanks. I'll give that a try and see what it says. It's funny that I
can have the computer on almost all day, logging on and off the net,
then towards the end of the evening, it dies. The reason I don't think
it's my cable service is that I can see the connectivity lights on the
modem all working, unless they're unreliable.

Does the eathernet Local area connection show up in Network Connections? If
so make sure that it is NOT briged. If it is, right click and select "Remove
from Bridge".

Yes, I see it in Network Connections in the Control Panel, but where
do I see if it's bridged? I see nothing there that would indicate it.
Thanks. (What does bridged mean?)

It would be obvious, you would have both nics showing (Bridged) next to
them, and a 'Network Bridge' showing up in a new 'Network Devices'
section or some crap.

Bridging is just that, your making a 'bridge' between two interfaces (NICS)

I have two networks A and B, each has 5 stations(A/B1-5) plugged to a
switch, which is uplinked to one of the NIC's on my machine
NetA-NicA/NetB-NicB
Now, without me, (the bridge) NetA is North America, and NetB is Europe.

Packets cant fly (well, now with wi-fly they do *snicker*) so in a
normal network model, NetB doesnt know about A, and vice-versa, but when
I 'bridge' those interfaces, it forms a permanent link, so while
remaining their own 'workgroup' they can still join the larger 'domain'
and talk to each other (a new NetAB if you will)

To really twist your head, look here.

I have had (still do) similar problems, but they are not related to my
P4C800E Deluxe MB. I am connected through a Linksys BEFSR41 Router to a
SpeedStream DSL modem (supplied by my ISP). When I encounter the problem I
sometimes recover by shutting off and restarting the modem. However, most
times I have to reset the router to restore the signal. On rare occassions I
have to shut off and reset both to restore the signal. Not serious enough to
get too excited, but I am thinking about replacing my router.

Same problem here, same DSL modem but with a SMC Router. I doubt it is
your router. Here it definitely seems to be a problem with Bell
Sympatico. Several relatives and friends, all with different setups, but
with Sympatico as the common denominator, experience various degrees of
the same problem. Always in the late evening.
