I just changed my cpu from the P4 3.06 533 to the P4 3.00 800.

Now I cannot boot Windows XP Pro anymore (black screens
after the boot Windows XP or Dos screen).

Is there anything special I need to do in the BIOS ? It was
complaining about overclocking for a while, then I ran setup and
it booted once and I cannot boot anymore after that.

Help ?

Thanks,
Lynn McGuire

Figured it out. I had BIOS 1006 and a Promise ATA100 card
for my backup hard drive. The Promise ATA100 card and the
Promise SATA on the motherboard were conflicting with each
other. This problem has been cured in BIOS 1008.

Thanks,

I have learnt never to change anything with WinXP as an operating system.
Even a simple case as changing my second hardisk which I used as data
storage and WinXP crashed completely and irreversibly. Then I have the
arduous task of Lowformat!!!! ,fdisk and format and re-installing
everything. Took me days!!!

So far I have found that Windows 98SE is the best: If it ever crashed, all I
have to do is to re-install Windows 98SE and everything is none the worse.
And I don't mean to say that Win98SE crashes on me that often. As far as I
am concerned, it is very stable and can take on a lot of punishments. It
hardly ever crashed on my system.

Based on your post,I'd have to say that you have just learned to deal with
98SE. The fact is that as an OS it's relieability is marginal at best. It's
not very good at dealing with that special occurance,if ya know what I
mean.Don't get me wrong,I used it for the longest time and finally made the
move to W2K.I never looked back. Now I've made the move to XP pro(dispite all
I've read about it),and although I'm still somewhat spekical about it,it's
proving to be quite intellegent when it comes to dealing with the odd
occurance.Of course, the rest of my machines are still using W2K and seem to
be watching what I'm going to do next...;^) OH NO..take him first!!!
