I am having a difficulty with a computer I have not seen before. New
p4b800ed with XP-Pro, the floppy drive seems to have stopped working
grinding noise on start up and shutdown. swapped out the drive and cable.
same issue- the floppy drive light stays on all the time. When I insert a
diskette it is not found. Pin one is to the striped line on the cable. The
twist is on the end nearest the drive. two cables two diskette drives and I
cannot understand what is happening. One beep code and xp loads normally.
It is just that the diskette drive is not useable and makes a grinding or
searching noise from when a diskette is inserted. Bios as the one shipped,
8.0

ANY help will be appreciated, I have to deliver this computer soon.

Are you using the cable supplied with the motherboard? Mine would NOT work
reliably with any cable other than the one that came with the board. I had
always previously thought that floppy cables are pretty much generic, but
not this, at least in my experience.
