I think I might have a fried MB and I'd like some opinions if
possible.

Symptoms: Machine was running in standby mode. Hit the keyboard to
get her going, nothing. Stated to smell electronics burning. Tried
to kill the machine with the button but no go. Then, the machine just
shuts down on it's own. Green LED light on the MB was lit. As I get
absolutely nothing when I push the power switch, no fans, no lights,
nothing, I'm thinking it's either power supply, or MB.

I switched power supplies with another machine and the old power
supply works just fine, aamof, it's in the machine I'm posting from
now.

When I put the power supply in the problem machine the fans on the
power supply, CPU, and case come on without hitting the power switch
on the case. But, they are running at about half speed. LED on MB
now flickers on and off, rather than the normal always on. Nothing
happens when I hit the power switch, but the HD and power on LED on
the front of the case seem to flicker at about the same speed as the
MB LED.

So, anyway, I'm thinking fried MB, fwer. I'll no doubt just order
another in the morning. I'm not up to going through a warranty thing
as I'm too busy to fuss with it, but what is the warranty on an Asus
MB? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Look on the motherboard for a failed Southbridge. It is a big
chip with no hedtsink on the top. Its name is "ICH". The first
posting shows a typical burn mark on a failed chip.

That's it, bigger than poo. Thanks for the link.

Thanks for reporting your failure mode. Your failure occurred
coming out of standby, implying this problem is not entirely
caused by ESD (static discharge). If you use the warranty,
Asus will solder a new Southbridge on there.
