P4B266 IDE Led Stays On

Evening all

On my p4b266, the hdd light stays on constantly even tho all that's
connected to
the ide bus is a cd rom and a cd writer, as these don't use the hdd led what
would cause the light to be on?

No they don't require the HDD LED at all but remember that any IDE
device, wether it's connected to the Primary or Secondary controller
ports can interact with this LED.

I've seen this occur on other motherboards besides Asus, Aopen for
instance. Found out that the Secondary/Slave device was causing it. The
device was a generic brand DVD reader. Normally I configure the CD-RW
drive as the Secondary/Master and any other drives as Secondary/Slave. I
disconnected the Secondary/Slave drive and low and behold the LED
behaved normally once again.

Not sure if swapping the Master/Slave will help out in this case but
give it a try. Also try a different cable just to be sure, perhaps a new
80-wire cable would work better.
