Has any tried a using a P4 2.6G 400MHz FSB CPU in a P4B266-C motherboard?
Does it work????
I am trying to upgrade from my original 1.6a GHz CPU to a new 2.6 GHz, and the
new CPU will not boot; not even into BIOS.
I checked the ASUS website (http://taiwan.asus.com.tw/inside/techref/northwoodcpu.htm),
and I believe the P4B266-C will support a 2.6G (the fastest P4 with a 400 MHz FSB) as
of BIOS v1005.002.
I have the latest BIOS out of ASUS Germany, v1007.003 dated 12/08/2003 (fairly recent).
My new CPU has an sSpec of SL6PP. I check on Intel's website, and this is indeed a
2.6GHz, 400MHz FSB, CPU.
When I replace my new CPU back with my old CPU, and boot, I go into BIOS and it
says that a multiplier error was detected, and I am in now "safe mode" (or words along
those lines).
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
