A Open AX4GE-N motherboard, Intel chipset GE version.

Wondering about the Prescott P4, and what's required for it to work on a
Williamette/Northwood only motherboard. What happens if one installs the
Prescott on such a motherboard? Just doesn't work? Something burns up?

i think you are looking for trouble. i am willing to bet you that the board
will not post let alone run stable if it did.

You would need a BIOS upgrade, IF such a one is available, for the Prescott
to safely work.

I have a Northwood P4/2.4 in my Dell, and my son's computer has a Prescott
P4/2.8.
Mine is 533 FSB, his is 800. Mine has 512K L2, his has 1MB.
They have the same pins, look physically identical.

Switch the processors and neither one POSTs. They just don't start.

Just don't ask me how I know that.

Right now a Northwood version Celeron 2.4 GHz, 128KB secondary cache, 533MHz
cpu front sidebus, no HT technology.

The Prescott Pentium is same cpu speed, 2.4 GHz. 1MB secondary cache,
533MHz cpu front sidebus, HT technology.

Thanks on letting me know yours didn't fry. I can tolerate it not working,
frying something is something else. If it don't work, will return it and
try the powerleap.com offering
