p4 Prescott operating Temp ?

Depends on what heatsink/fan solution you've mounted on the processor, the
speed the processor fan speed is turning, and naturally the room temp and
case. I have a 640 3.2 GHz Prescott w/ stock heatsink/fan on a Intel 955XBK
motherboard in a Lian Li 1100 plus case. I've adjusted my processor fan
speed to where the processor temps run @ 40-44C small load, and 48-53C full
load. The maximum DO NOT exceed temperature for the 3.2 GHz 640 is 67C. If
your coming close to 67C you need a better case.

Looks like I should be OK then, the highest recorded temp so far under
load has been 54 degrees.

There is no such thing as cpu at no load unless the PC is off. "Little
load" is a matter of perspective. The ambient temperature is of consequence
when quoting temps inside a PC.

Ambient temperature here is 68F.
Prescott 2.4 GHz cpu temp is 99F using cpu fan/heat sink provided by Intel
with that cpu.
Board temp is 84F.
Running XP HE with a number of services, and typical AV and bug protection
for starters.

Which is MUCH cooler than what my P4 3.4 used to hit when all it had was
the heatsink and fan that shipped from Intel. I switched to liquid
cooling and now under load it is about what it used to be under rest.
