I just upgraded from a 2.4g 533 to the 3.06g 533 last night (2/7/04)
and I am not too sure yet if I am pleased or not, as I have had some
trouble. With the 2.4g, my system was rock-solid steady for well over
a year.
P4T533 Version 1.03 / 512megs (2 RIMMS) / nVidia GeForce FX 5600 / SB
Live 5.1 / RAID 0 (2 x 120g HDs) / 450W PS.
Running Windows 2000 Pro (SP 4)
Downloaded and installed the 1006 BIOS. Reset the bios using the
jumper on the motherboard.
1) At first kept detecting the audio device until I found that setting
buried under PCI devices and disabled it. (I forgot there are two
audio settings in the bios to disable)
2) At first system was very unstable. It randomly re-booted several
times on its own (after flashing the blue screen for a second or two).
Tried the 1005 version of the BIOS but since nothing changed went back
to the 1006.
3) After a bit of research it appears that MS says only Windows XP and
above officially support HyperThreading. So, I DISABLED
HyperThreading since I am running Windows 2000. I thought that was
it. It appeared to be running stable, but …
4) After a couple hours system randomly reset itself and re-booted
ONCE. Well, that is one time too many. So, I set the RAM speed back
to Normal instead of Turbo. So far, since I did that, it has not
locked up or rebooted yet and that has been about 4 or 5 hours now.
I'll be leaving it on 24x7 until I am convinced that it is stable. It
never used to lock-up or reboot randomly and since I haven't installed
any new drivers or software if it does so now, I am saying the 3.06
and the P4T533 are not quite compatible. We will see.
I would also like to hear anyone else's experience with the 3.06 /
P4T533 combination. If anyone wants me to give an update in a few
days I will gladly do so.
