Compare the CPUs here, you will find on Sandra Whetsone the P4 is faster!!
But about 20-25% slower on most others.
(also faster on multitasking 1).
So I don't know if you will notice much of an improvement, maybe save
up/wait
and get something more significant?

Is 7300GT faster than ur 9600?
A 7600GT would be a better choice....
Be sure to get the right 3500+ core..
I think it was the San Diego or the Venice core that is 90nm..
