I have an Intel 2.4G running xp home. When it was new 9
mo.ago it recognized it as a 2.4 running at 2.39g on the
system page under control panel. Now it shows it as a
2.4g but only shows it as running at 1.79 g. I have
checked it out with an Intel program and it shows it as a
2.4 Intel but it shows it running at 1.79. Is there a
setting that has changed maybe or is the cpu failing? Any
help would be great.
thanks,
Dave

It could be that your computer's bios is not configured correctly for the
current P4. Some computer bioses will set the processor speed to its lowest
possible speed when the computer fails to boot correctly. You will have to
reset the CPU speed with-in the bios.

Thanks,
I'll check it out ,

your bios is set to the default 100Mhz (400) fsb. you
need to change it (or a dip switch) to 133Mhz (533) fsb.

100*18=1800
133.33*18=2400
