P3V133, 1GHz CPU?

I have the P3V133 motherboard and I read it can use the P3 1GHz CPU. I have
the BIOS ver. they recommend. Do I look for the P3 with slot 1 or do I have
to buy an adapter first? Also, how do I know the jumper settings?

Thank you

Tony

I don't think they made slot1 P3s over 600 MHz or so. You'll have to get a
Slotket if that board is slot 1. That board should be jumper free.

Don't worry, they did. Up to 1 GHz actually. But I don't know whether
upgrading the P3V133 is really worth it, the chipset was so SLOW...

You can go to http://processorfinder.intel.com and look at the list
of processors listed under P3. This one, for example, is a 1GHz/FSB133
processor -

SL4BS 1 GHz 133 MHz 0.18 micron cC0 256K S.E.C.C.2

This page will give you some hints on what to look for:
http://homepage.hispeed.ch/rscheidegger/p2b_procupgrade_faq.html

This one shows the officially supported upgrade options:
http://www.asus.it/support/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx

The Asus Germany site has some FAQ files on upgrading. FAQ086 is one
for P3 upgrades. (The archive.org site keeps copies of older versions
of the website, which may have better looking formatting than the
version of the website today.) It looks like the P3V133 can take
anything thrown at it - what this tells me, is the voltage regulator
can handle requests for less than 1.8V Vcore. This suggests an
Upgradeware.com Slot-T slocket and a Tualatin processor could be used:

http://web.archive.org/web/20001201...hmain/FAQ/mobo_cpu/faq086_CPU_Upgrade_III.htm

I'm having trouble finding BIOS compatibility information. There
is only one entry for the P3V133 in the Powerleap database, and
there is no detail about the processor speed. The thing is,
there were problems with certain values of multiplier in the
processor, on the P2B-xx family of motherboards, and I don't know
whether that is an issue with your Via chipset motherboard or
not:

Slot 1 PIII 1GHZ's are hard to find and a bit pricey today but will work, I
have one, jumper free mode.

I have been looking at prices for P3 1GHz slot 1 but they ask over $200 for
one. If I get a slot 1 adapter ($15) then I can buy a P3 1GHz for about $84.
$99 is a lot better than $200 or more. Will this work?

Thank you

If it's a Coppermine compatible adapter of decent quality, yes. BTW, get
the various utilities written by George Breese (particularly the VIA
interleave enabler) to squeeze the most performance out of the board.
(As it seems, the interleave enabler can just about *double* the memory
throughput as measured by Sisoft Sandra w/o buffering on the Apollo Pro
133. You may want to try it with the current CPU and see how big the
difference is there.)
