My hard drive seems to be grinding away far too much. When
I looked at 'Processes' in Task Manager, I noticed a
process called P2P Networking was using between 30 - 50%
of the CPU.

What is this process and can I terminate it?

Thanks for any help.

YOU and YOU alone are responsible for the security of your platform !

You should have anti virus software you should know EVERYTING that runs on your PC.

What could be running is; Kazaa, Morpheus or other Peer to Peer networking software. Could
also be a virus or Trojan.

A P 2 P network only works the CPU when there is network traffic. Run an
updateed virus check and also run Spybot and /or Adaware.

Thank you for your reply Dave

My PC has all the latest security patches, most recent
system service pack and ALWAYS runs anti virus software
which I update very regularly.

We do use Kazaa, I have 2 sons who regularly download
stuff, but it wasn't running when I saw P2P Networking
using up so much processing power.

Thank you Gordon. I downloaded and registered Spyware
Nuker which found 1000s of 'spy' files, all of which have
been deleted. I'm also running PopUp Dummy to try and stop
all the pop-up ads.

But P2P Networking is still running at 35% CPU, even when
not on-line. That and 'System Idle Process' are using 42%
of the CPU with no applications running at all.
