If you haven't already done it, goto Control Panel > Network and Sharing >
and turn off Passord Protection Sharing

Not if you have a simple household network of one desktop and one laptop,
not user accounts and no passwords, just needing to share the printer and
files.............needed to turn it off or it would not work.

Hi Wendy,

I've read through a couple of your threads/instructions.
My problem is my laptop vista sees and can access all my files/documents
that are on my desktop xp, however, the desktop xp although it sees the
laptop vista, can't seem to be able to access to view any of its files
documents. The link you provided from microsoft I believe you said it was
for the vise versa problem to allow vista to access xp files. I need my xp
desktop to be able to access my vista files/documents, so is there some other
download patch I can use for this problem???

Thanks,

Jade

Sorry, I forgot to add that I'm also having a problem with the vista laptop
not picking up the printer wirelessly. The printer is attached to the xp
desktop. This is another os conflict isn't it? Installed and reinstalled
drivers in both. How can I get the printer to be recognized to print?

Thanks again...

Jade

Nope. I just posted last night, so I'm waiting for someone to come along and
save the day!

Common logon username and profile on the vista and xp machines ?
Guest account enabled for the folder shared on the Vista machines ?

i had the same problem with my printer and i just got it fix...
first of all make sure the printer is installed on the XP computer.
secondly, go control panel click on printer...if you don't have that
printers icon there already than click on add a printer...click on add local
printer....then click on create a new port....\\Computers Name which has the
printer\Printer's name and click ok. then choose your manufeturer and that is
it...
hey, i hope that it helps...if not go on HP.com and chat alive help...god
bless.
