How do I change the type of file from a Shortcut to a File Folder?

You can't. That's sort of like asking how do you change an orange into
a horse. They're two different things and you can't change one into
the other.

For more help, please explain exactly what you want to accomplish, and
why.

Ok - I want Start/My Documents to appear as a menu or list instead of as
links and I cannot figure out how to do this.

Right-click on the start button, choose Properties.
Start Menu tab, Customize button.
Advanced tab, Start Menu items listing...

Scroll down, find "My Documents" and choose "Display as Menu" under it.
OK your way out (close all windows by clicking OK/Close.)

Tried that in the past - and again now, does NOT work.

Classic start menu or Windows XP start menu?

Windows XP - the problem seems to be that the My Documents is a shortcut and
not a regular folder and I think that is the problem but I don't know how to
fix it.
