Hi,
I have results from a technical calculation that I
plot as 3-d contour. Plot displays values for an error
function vs. different parameters (independent variables).
The calcs I perform are iterative in nature seeking a
solution by minimizing said error function using a set of
independent search variables. What I would like to do is
to overlay the surface chart with the iteration history
in the form of value for error function vs. used values
of the search variables, effectively getting a plot
showing the search space with a line indicating the
convergence history.

Does anybody know if it is possible to achieve this in
Excel?

Any help appreciated.

If I understand you correctly, you want a 4-d chart showing the 3-d error
function vs. number of iterations. I don't know how I would represent that
data, and I don't think it's possible in Excel.

If you can somehow reduce your data to three dimensions, we might be able to
help you out.
