Overlapping characters

I'd like to have two characters share the same space. For instance, I
need an X with an arrow above the X. I know how to do this using the
equation editor, but I'd like the sentence to be all text rather than
having an equation in the middle. [To my knowledge there's no way to
EASILY and quickly accomplish this with the equation object--I'm
developing about 500 slides for an economics textbook and many of them
will need this effect!] I can superscript the arrow, but I can't
figure out how to move the X to be under the arrow--it's beside the
arrow. Any ideas? In MS Word I can use the character spacing feature
to accomplish this, but I can't find such a feature in PowerPoint. I'm
using Powerpoint 2002 on Windows XP Home edition.

Hello Pam,

PowerPoint does not have the specific capability that you are looking for
(character/word spacing control),

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
provide additional character spacing control (kern pairs, ligatures,
character/word spacing, etc.), don't forget to send your feedback to
Microsoft at:

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
