Overlap animation

In a slide presentation, I want to fade an image out while fading another
image in so that there is a short period of overlap. Is that possible? I run
Office XP.
 
In PowerPoint 2003 (also know as XP), the animation pane allows the user to
select 'with previous' for any selected effect. This means that the two
animations will begin at the same time and overlap. So if you have the Fade
in above the Fade out, just select the fade out and change the Start feild
from On Click to With Previous. Now both will begin at the same time. This
can be heavily tweaked, if need be.

If you need additional help with this, please post back and we can walk you
thru it a step at a time. Just be sure to give us enough information to be
able to help.

OK. I have 20 slides each with a different image. The image on slide 1 fades
in. It then fades out 'after previous' but with a 10 second delay. There is
then a transition to the next slide and the image on this slide fades in
'with previous'. Again, this fades out 'after previous' but with a 10 second
delay.

This method does not allow a period of overlap to occur. One image
completely fades before the transition to the next slide.

Do I have to layer the 20 images on one slide with the fade animation in
order to get the overlap?

Slide 1 comes up with Image 1
Image 2 fades in over it

Simple change animation to Slide 2
Slide 2 has Image 2 on it then
Image 3 fades in over it

and so on.

Might make it easier to keep track of what you're doing.

Well you obviously had a great day.

One other quick question. I want to use the 'Dissolve In' animation to bring
in photographs that were shot through a window during rain. I like the idea
of small bits of the photos appearing randomly in the 'Dissolve In'
animation (as you would experience if looking at something through a window
while raining) but really don't like the 'pixel' look and would prefer
circles or drops. Ever heard of such animation?
