Well I've overclocked me pc by 5% using the built in auto clocking feature in the bios .Runs realy nicely no problems and fairly low temps 35C to 40C at 100% cpu usage . When I try to overclock to 10% the pc crashes , gets past the bios and on to the windows loading screen and then crashes . I do have Boinc set to run at startup but that should not be a problem as the pc never gets close to loading it before its crashed . Any ideas folks

Whats the HTT bus at? keep it less than 1000mhz on A64's. ;)

Some screenshots of CPUZ would be nice. the main tab and the memory tab.

Read this.

:)

I'm guessing that the HTT Bus is 840.0 mhz but its only a guess . Heres some pics of CPU-Z .

Did you change the RAM divider? Can you not run it at 1:1?

Maybe set the RAM to cas3, Dont change the voltages just yet though.

Trial and error mate, only you can really do if ya know what i mean. ;)

Only thing I have changed is the setting in the bios for automatic overclocking . Read the guide you directed me to but its a bit complicated , I'm in the middle of building another pc at the moment and was just trying out the overclocking thing . Running at 2310.0 mhz at 5% overclocked was just wanting to see if I could boost it a teeny weeny bit more and still stay stable and cool .

this thread has just made me realise why my performance was so poor, damn HT mult was 3x now got it a 5x giving 1125Mhz link speed :D

Whats it at? Your cpu is oc'ed isn't it? I read it should be no higher than 1000 or it can cause the system to crash, and that it dont make a big difference. But if its ok then no problem. :)

yep, i have noticed changing the mult that my temps have risen by 4C so it must have done something , tbh i haven't benchmarked my system at all even at stock settings so dunno if i'm getting much of a boost in performance

Fair enough, just wondering is all. I had to drop it on my old 4800x2 as it crashed above 1000mhz...

Gonna start ocing the E66 this weekend, Looks like i picked the right weekend for it, its going to be as hot then as it is now!

Just my luck....

lol, always the way aint it, shouldn't have any trouble though especially with that big ass cooler you have

Yeah should be good, i hope. Checked my cpu's product code and batch number out and it seems its one of the 'better' ones, not that their bad but some apparently has trouble getting stable at 3ghz without a reasonable jump in vcore. From what i've read anyway.

Mines a SL9S8, week 30. Which is apparently good. :D

But theres only one real way to find out....

overclocking can be finicky, thats why i dont bother anymore.... mostly cause it didnt give much more performance, just more headaches :D
