Have just got a bios detail for my Pc and about the CPU it states

AMD Athlon(tm)64 Processor 3200+ 2000Mhz...Max 3700Mhz

How far would it overclock to , surely not 3700Mhz ????

Nope, you won't. Not unless you want to get some severe cooling in place anyway, like liquid nitrogen :)

You may get up to 2.2 to 2.4Ghz out of it by messing with fsb and RAM timings, but it all depends on a lot of factors.

Like: Your chip; your memory (very important); your PSU and your cooling.

Overclocking is a lotta messing about for very little real gain, tbh.

It is kinda satisfying when you do it and system runs stable though :)

The 3.7Ghz limit in your Bios is just the motherboard's BIOS manufacturer being optmistic for future CPU's, is all.

By the time 3.7Ghz chips are available, your mobo will probably be a dinosaur.

The max3700 m8 is simply stating that your board is capable of taking upto a AMD 3700+ CPU;)

Sorry flop's never saw all of your post. It's erm..early and i'm tired

Goodnight :D

Ahem Morning, Good morning. Oh poo never mind, bedtime ;)

just pointing out here that the world overclocking record is held by itily and they overclocked a standard pentium 4 using liquid nitrogen right up to 12.6ghz my overclock record with water cooling is 1ghz increase on a pentium si i have a long way b4 busting the record
