There are some easy to adjust overclocking
settings. I'd like to try them but I'm afraid I
might do permanent harm.

Permanent damage is most likely from raising voltage too high, or
corruption of data. If CPU or chipset, memory, video, etc, MHz are too
high, it'll just crash or cause errors. As for heat, keep in mind the
effect any changes will have on it's production. Monitor temps and if
knowing a given change will put system outside of safe temp margins, plan
appropriate cooling beforehand.

There are plenty of o'cing guides out there, if anything it's easier to
o'c these days than ever before, providing your memory is up to the task
or you are willing to manipulate the timings. Above all, test stability
extensively and backup any important data.

Above paragraphs were pretty vague, since you made no mention of system
specifics. Then again, an overclocking newsgroup would be more
appropriate and you'll likley receive more, higher quality answers.

Thanks. I really appreciate that you tried to help,
on skimpy info and steered me to a more appropriate
ng without being rude.
