Can anyone tell me how to do this? Are there any methods
which do not require physically modifying the CPU?

Thanks

No methods require physically modifying the CPU. But this is not the right
place to get support with that. it will void your warranty of your computer
along with cause problems with Windows if you dont do it right.

Not the correct group for this question... however, I ran a XP 1600+ as a
2100+ for many months. Sold the MB & CPU - the fellow who purchased it is
doing the same.

Depends on MB, but I was able to set the CPU to run at 166 instead of the
default 133MHz on my board with PC2700 RAM. To do this you must have a MB
that supports the 5/2/1 ratio as well as 4/2/1 otherwise this option is not
available.

BTW was able to run this way with stock voltages and air cooling. As
mentioned earlier DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK as not all XP1600+ CPUs can do
this. If I recall it was an AIUHB core that could be clocked this way, but
its been a while so can not say for sure!

Good Luck - be careful!
