I bought an MSI K7N2 motherboard from Overclockers UK as a replacement
for my existing damaged board.
After installing the board, et al, my machine still would not boot,
calling an error in the RAM, and beeping like buggery.
I bought a new RAM stick from someone other than OcUK, because they
were cheaper. This seemed to work fine after installation, but now the
motherboard called an error with the CPU, and still wouldn't even get
as far as the BIOS.
I bought a new CPU from a computer fair as I was now becoming
impatient in getting my system back up and running.
The new CPU didn't work.
I had the original RAM and CPU checked, and the new RAM and CPU
checked. All are fine.
The new motherboard OcUK sent me is faulty however.
And has caused me not only delay in the repair of my system, but also
unnecessary expenditure on other hardware.
I'm not a happy bunny.
They came highly recommended, but on my first purchase have managed to
seriously disappoint and inconvenience.

There is no reply to the e.mails I sent. Their customer service seems
permanently engaged.
When I did get through they refused to send a prepaid returns parcel,
expecting me to pay for the return of their faulty hardware.
Having spent £170 on needlessly replacing perfectly functioning CPU
and RAM they refused any kind of compensation.
Even if it had been bought from them.
Even in form of vouchers for their own store.

DO NOT shop at overclockers UK. They're crap!

Did you follow the MSI recommendations on DIMM brands/source? Like most
modern mbrds, those are quite picky on memory compatibility. In
particular, generic memory is no longer a viable choice.

From what you've told us so far, it doesn't seem like you gave them much of
a chance to make good.

With margins what they are now, it's unusual to get a "free" pick-up on an
RMA. I'm not a vendor but someone who was has reported here that most
returned mbrds turn out to be perfectly functional. In your situation I'd
make the best negotiated deal on a replacement mbrd they will come up with
and move on.

Overclockers are renowned for being a PITA to deal with for RMAs unless
you can physically walk into their store and kick butt. I live close
enough to handle that, but if you don't then I can't recommend them.
Their phone-answering ability is the pits for sales as well as support,
which means you can drive up there to buy something and discover that
their web page lied about whether they have it in stock (and you
couldn't check with a human being).

I've actually stood in the store and rung their number on my mobile, to
get a 'busy' signal, when I can clearly see several oiks sitting on
their hands in the phone answering area .. so maybe their switchboard is
not entirely truthful either. 8<,

I thought you had laws in the U.K. that the made the retailer primarily
responsible on handling warranty issues... or did they change that?

They likely have an auto-respond tree which is impossible to negotiate -
the lines are jammed with people trying to figure out which button was the
wrong one.;-)

We do, but sadly no law that says the retailer has to be easy to get
hold of by phone or email. As I said, if you can walk into their shop
and kick-butt, it works fine.

I dunno, I've never actually gotten that far. To be fair I'd rather have
'engaged' (which costs me nothing) than one of those stupid systems
which picks up, and then plays you music (at $1 a minute) while assuring
you that 'Your call is important to us; We will get to you as soon as
possible'.. Bleah!

Might be worth the drive just for the satisfaction... and maybe find
something else useful/pleasant to do on the way?

Mind you mbrd probs are difficult to pin down and, from what he's posted so
far, the OP seems to me to need more evidence that it is definitely a bad
mbrd. Expecting "compensation" for money spent with competitors is not umm
reasonable to me.,, even if the mbrd is bad.

Musak is annoying but sometimes a relief to have finally figured out the
correct series of numbers to press to get there.:-)

I'm sory for you. Next time ask someone to do it, because you seem to
be a child when it comes to computers.
