Dennis Pack x64, vista rc1 x86 & x64

Andre:

Did the USR3095 install on x64? I know that the USP 5699b will
but the USR 5610b won't. The USR 5699b has been installing out of the box on
Vista x64 through PRC1. I'll see if it installs out of the box with RC1 x64
tomorrow and report the results. It's time for some sleep.

Post your impressions of performance/improvements overall feel of RC1 going
from Pre-RC1, not beta. Deciding if I would upgrade.

Thanks.

Install was faster.
Beta 2 & Pre-RC1 took 45 minutes
RC1 took 25 minutes

GUI is faster and programs open quicker. Definite improvement opening
Windows Mail and IE6. Thats all I can say right now as I have not tested it
further.

Hi Mario

Been using RC1 now for some time over pre-RC1... performance in pre-RC1 was
already pretty good for me yet with RC1 it's even better... especially when
it comes to I/O.

Software incompatibility is almost identical as pre-RC1, yet the system
feels far more stable now... so much so that I have ditched my XP partition
completely!

Installed faster, but I can't get the dial-up modem (USR3095) to install.

John:
Thanks for catching my major error. That will teach me to post when I'm half
sleeping. I reversed the USR 5699b and USR 5610b modems when I wrote the
message. Thanks again.

Thanks, I have downloaded RC1 and looks like I may do an install tonight
based on your response.

This is after trying XP drivers, right? My modem was not installed out of
the box with Vista, but the XP drivers that came with my Dell PC, did work.

RC1 is faster than Pre-RC1

The Vista drivers don't work on my modem. I did have the modem working in
pre-RC1 but not now. Pretty soon I'll give up and go back.

Fixed it. Must have been a bad Vista install. I reformatted the drive and
reinstalled Vista and the correct USR3095 drivers installed.

Frank

Not sure which system you are talking about with the USR5610b not working,
but it installed out of the box on x64 for me and beta2 Vista 86 also
Haven't received the rc1 DVD yet but I plan to try both versions when the do
arrive.
