Over clocking

I've read a lot recently about "overclocking" to get better performance out of a PC especially when playing games, by simply "tweaking". I don't understand it, as most of the stuff I have read is really technical.

Can someone tell me:

1. is it worth it?
2. how do you do it?
3. what are the benefits?
4. what are the down sides?

Thanks for your help
Vinnie

Hi Vinnie,

It's not worth it because you risk damaging your system,
and in most cases it also will void the warranty. There's
just too much risk to get a few extra frames per second.

Compare it to souping up your car's engine. You're going
to have to spend a lot of time and money maintaining it...
time you could be spending playing your favorite game. ;-)

My advice is donated "AS IS" without warranty; nor do I confer any rights.

In addition to what Jimmy said, Windows XP runs pretty good on its own. If
you want better performance, doubling your RAM should always be first
choice. But, like any other hardware on XP, make sure you're installing
matching memory sticks. XP is touchy when it comes to anything out of
normal specs, and mismatched RAM can cause all kinds of errors.
