Over 250 messages vanished

Over 250 e-mails in my Inbox seem to have been deleted.
What could have caused this? Any hope of retrieving?
Symantec did find a virus this morning, W32.Welchia.Worm,
but Quarantine succeeded. Coincidence? Thanks for help.

That's a good one (which I would never consider <grin> since I have
archiving turned off.)
