Recently I read an article in a magazine called "Wired," I think that's what it's called. Well, The article is about a problem programmers might have in the future. They found a way to reduce expenses by replacing high paid programmers to lower paid Indian programmers. What also makes this news worse is that these low paid indian people, their wage ( I read ) is equal to a Taco Bell worker, is their education is greater or equal to our own education in the states. So not only are these companies benefiting from lower costs in hiring but their workers are just as good as the American programmers.
What My problem is that I want to pursue a career in programming but I don't want to pursue it if programming jobs will be scarce. What do you guys think. Is it that bad? If you haven't read an article about it, try to find that magazine or website that talks about it. Thanks for your response

Well, on the one hand the sky is always falling. :-) Who can say to what
extent this is a structural change and to what extent it is to deal with
leaner '00s than the fat '90s. I don't know for sure, but I'm worried.

And on the other hand a senator from NY was quoted in the nes this week that
a head of a Wall Street firm told him that they have 800 developers making
$150K a year. In three years he expects to have zero. There can be no
question that the suits would like to see this happen that soon. It remains
to be seen if it will.

As I said, the trend worries me. Sometimes what I think is worse, is that
people like those you find _here_ (including me) may be hastening the future
to a greater extent that those with the power to move the jobs.

Regards,
Will
