Outlook98 Contacts/Calendars/Notes to Vista Equivalents

I have numerous “Categories†with several “Contacts†& “Calendars†in each in
MS Outlook98. I would, of course, like a painless way of transferring or
importing this mass of data, intact, to the new VISTA equivalences. My
research thus far has not produced a satisfactory solution. Can anyone help?
Or, would I be better off going to Outlook 2007?

My new PC came with Office 2007 pre-installed at the factory but this
version, to my surprise & disappointment, did not include Outlook. Is there
an inexpensive yet trustworthy source for adding MS Outlook 2007 to my MS
Office 2007 Suite?

I also have a few notes in Outlook98 I need to transfer but this is less of
a priority so, I have not even looked at the VISTA “Side Note†equivalent
yet. Can I expect any surprises here?

Thanks
Lenny

There is no "Vista equivalent" to Outlook. Windows Mail is the successor to
Outlook Express; OE and Outlook are entirely different applications, even
though they share the same name. The best solution would be Outlook 2007.
This way, all you move is the old .PST file, connect it to the new Outlook,
and go on about your business. You might want to go to Add Programs and
click the "Change/Remove" link for Office 2007; there is a chance Outlook
2007 is included, but not installed (I believe that the Student edition of
Office 2007 is the only one that doesn't include Outlook). Alternatively,
move everything from Outlook 98 to Outlook Express on the old PC, move the
..DBX files to the new machine and import them with WM.

Thanks for the info Hal. I need to check if the VISTA versions support
"Categories" & what differences & limitations I will be looking at before
deciding on the exact course of action. Thanks again. You have helped.
