I used Microsoft's pst backup utility to make a copy of
the pst file from my old Office 2000 installation. I
then copied that file to my new notebook running Office
2003. Now I have a complete duplicate of the all files
tree and although you can see the contacts in the
contacts folder, they don't appear to be available when
using email.
What is the correct way to transfer files from the old
system to the new?

Read my post "Avoid duplicate Folders" ( If you need more help you can skype me, Skype: richard_aspenlind)

I do need your help, but I don't understand what you mean by "skype me". What's a skype? My issue is related, but maybe different. I'm trying to synchronize Outlook and two PCs (PC1 is running Outlook 2000 and PC2 is running Outlook 2003). I replaced the PST file on PC2 with a copy of the one from PC1. But when I open up on PC2, it shows two different Personal Folders files -- that seem to have exactly the same information in them. But the real problem is when I go to send an e-mail message. When you click in the "to" box it brings up a message that says "The address list could not be displayed. The contacts folder assoicated with this address list could not be opened . . . etc." The contacts are there. I can see them
So what do I need to do to correct these ? Will this happen every time I update the PST file? Or is there some other trick you need to know?

To avoid your problem you have to do what I said in my "Avoid duplicate folders" post. About skype... go to www.skype.com and you will find out it's the best VOIP.
