My outlook contacts do not show up as email contacts when I converted to new
computer. When I go to "Show This Folder as an Email Address Book," the box
is grey and won't allow me to check it. I also cannot remove the Outlook
Address Book from Account Settings and reinstall as that tab is greyed also.
I am running Windows Vista - and was using Outlook 2003. I just bought
Outlook 2007 thinking the problem would correct itself, but it did not. I
have tried all solutions that I have read on this website to no avail.
Thanks for your help.

Answered countless times. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287563/en-us

To add to what Brian said, on Vista, with those symptoms, you will need to create a completely new mail profile.

I have tried all those options on that link to no avail. The links remain
gray and I cannot change the settings. Do you have any other suggestions?

Is there an easy way to copy my existing addresses to a new mail profile? I
have too many to start over. Thanks for your help.

Does anyone have a phone # of someone who can help me with the below problem
-- I'm happy to pay. I've tried all of the suggestions given but they are
not working. Thank you!

You don't need to copy anything. Just add your existing PST to the new
profile.

Didnt read all the threads but I didnt like the idea of having to set up a
separate profile just to get my outlook to work properly. Had recently used
the vista utility to transfer the outlook 2003 settings/files to a new
computer. The properties box was "greyed out" like other people when I when
right clicked and tried to "show the folder as an email address book." So
here is what I did:

i) go to "tools" -> view or change existing directories/address book

ii) "outlook address book" was already added - I deleted this entry

iii) close outlook...and restart outlook

iv) go to "tools" -> add a new directory or address book

v) added "outlook address book" saved it then closed/restarted outlook

vi) the greyed out feature is now gone. I can right click on any folder ->
properties and add any contacts folder as an address book.

No second profile required. No transfer of PST files required. Will likely
only work if you have a previous entry that can be deleted. Good luck!

Not very relevant. Although you may not "like the idea" of a new profile, it
is the only thing that will work with current versions of Outlook. Get used
to creating a new profile. You must do so every time you try to use Windows
Easy Transfer, and is hardly difficult.

If this is for Outlook 2003, then it's not surprising, and this is the
proper way to handle the problem. WItho Outlook 2007, however, tha ability
to remove the Outlook Address Book seems to be broken and the only way to
correct the problem is with a new mail profile.
