I apolgize if this is the wrong forum for this question. Does anyone know
the filename of the file that Outlook, Offfice 2000 uses to store the
address book? My fathers comp is in serious need of a reformat and update
to win 2k but he has an extensive address book to copy before wiping the
system and I don't even know the extension of the file. He is running 98SE
and Office 2K. Thanks for any help.

Hi Scott,

You'll probably get a more authoritative answer in a
microsoft.public.outlook.* newsgroup or on the Outlook site at
http://www.slipstick.com but here goes.

Outlook (not Outlook Express, which is quite different) usually stores
all its folders (contacts, email, the lot) in a .pst file for each user.
Typically it's called Outlook.pst and in recent versions of windows is
in the individual user's application data folders.

If Outlook is installed to work with Exchange Server (only in corporate
settings) data is normally stored on the server but can also be in a
local .pst or .ost file depending how things are set up.

There can also be separate address book files; I'm not sure whether
these are *.wab or *.pab.
