Outlook XP to 2003 hangs

After I installed Outlook 2003 (Office 2003), it imported
XP settings, prepared the Welcome to 2003 and looked
fine. BUT after closing it will not open.
At first it starts but hangs. Then a dialog box "Open in
Save" and that hangs. Afterwards, rebooting, I don't get
even that.
I uninstalled 2003. Reinstalled XP, works fine, then
using Control Panel uninstalled XP. Then reinstalled
2003, same result.
Word, PowerPoint, Excel, installed and work fine.

I'd appreciate any guidance as I've got money tied up in
software that won't work and I can't get a refund.
 
Recreate your mail profile in;
Control Panel-> Mail-> button Show Profiles...

Should I do this while Outlook XP is installed (which is
now with everything working) or should I re-re-install
Outlook2003 first?

Both should work but I recommend you do it after the upgrade to prevent
"polution" in the profile.
