Hello,

I performed a long-overdue format/reinstalll of my system this weekend. I
also set up partitions in my hard drive to make backups easier. Everything
works like a charm except for the fact that Outlook takes about 4-5 seconds
to switch from one e-mail to the next (regardless of whether the mail is
HTML or plaintext). This is slower than it was before the format.

My pst file is about 180MB. One thing: I don't have my pst file in the
standard location...it's in My Documents (which is mapped to my F:\
partition). Would this be a reason, or does anyone have other possibilities?

I'm running:
XP Pro, with Office XP
P4 1.4 GHz with 384MB RAM
4 partitions:
C: 8GB Windows
D: 768MB Swap
E: 20GB Programs
F: 11GB Data <<--- pst file is here...My Docs mapped to here.

Thanks,
Mike Trozzo

I have the same problem with taking forever to switch between email
messages. Right now I am running MSN Messenger 6.1 and I have the Instant
Messaging box checked in Outlook, but the Windows Messenger startup box and
run in background boxes unchecked.

What settings did you change exactly? When I had the background box for
Windows Messenger checked I sometimes ended up with both of them running,
and that annoying message that I had signed in on another computer, so I
unchecked it.

Should the Instant Messaging box be checked at all if I am running MSN
Messenger? I do have a hotmail account setup in Outlook as well as an email
for my ISP. I also removed the Active Directory entry which I am not sure I
should have done. I am using a dial up connection, but I do have fast user
switching enabled and I am beginning to think Outlook was using this somehow
for the switching thing.

Any info you can give me would be appreciated. I was planning to contact MS
Support in hopes of getting an answer there.

Hi Lori,

I went to Tools --> Options --> Other, and unchecked the box saying "Enable
Instant Messaging in Microsoft Outlook".
