Outlook XP is trying to modify my normal.dot

Here is my problem (if it is a problem at all). When I try to exit Outlook
XP, it tells me that normal.dot has been modified and it asks me whether I
want to save the modified file. I always say no, fearing a virus problem.
This behavior started a few days ago, for no obvious reason. I have done a
full virus scan and found nothing. By the way, I do not use Outlook for
e-mail.

My questions are as follows:

1) Is this a sign of a virus infection or a normal ocurrence?

2) Why does Outlook load Word in the first place? Can I disable this
behavior?

Thanks in advance,

Gabriel

This is possible when you have Word as e-mail editor. To change your mail
editor;
Tools-> Options-> tab Mail Format

Let it save its changes. I don't think you make that much changes everytime
to you normal.dot template, do you?

I closed and opened Outlook five times and let it save the "changes" in
normal.dot.
But it continues asking to save changes.
Please help,

lixeiro

Start with a new normal.dot by renaming it to normal.old and see if this
stops you from prompting everytime you close Outlook.

Hi,

I did your suggestion and the answer is:
Yes, when I close Outlook (2003), it keeps asking if the 'changes' (in the
new) normal.dot should be saved.

By the way: the old normal.dot was 170 kb big, the new one only 30 kb.
(I must rename the old normal.dot back, because it has several important
configurations for me).
