With outlook 97, each profile could have it own address
book, inbox, etc.. In outlook 2000 that was taken away,
address book was shared and you would have to set up
folder and tell which folder to put incoming mail into.

With outlook XP which is it, do we have the freedom of
choice we used to have in outlook 97, or are we limited as
to what we are allowed to do as in outlook 2000?

I'm not really sure what you are getting at.

In Outlook 97 in most cases you also created a pab-file (personal
addressbook) in your profile. So you had two locations where you stored
items for one profile; mail, calendar, journal, etc items went on the
Exchange server or in a pst-file and contacts weny in a pab-file.

When Outlook 2000 came the pab-file became obsolete. The Contacts Folder
also was able to create distributionlists now so all mail, calendar,
journal. etc items including the contacts are saved in one location; the
Exchange server or pst-file.

Profile creation is possible for Outlook 2000 but I believe you need to
install it in Corporate/Workgroup mode for this to work. Outlook XP doesn't
have different kind of modes anymore and profile creation is always
possible.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

See if this explains better.

In Outlook 97, if I openned my profile I saw only my
inbox, my address book, etc.. Likewise if my wife openned
her profile, she saw her inbox, her address book, etc.

In Outlook 2000, if I open my profile, I see THE inbox,
THE address book, and if my wife opens her profile, she
sees the same inbox, address book . . . . not a seperate
one.

Which way did the Outlook that comes with Office XP
Profesional go?

This depends on the mode of Outlook 2000 you are running. You will be able
to have complete different profiles when you are in Corporate/Workgroup
mode.

Outlook XP doesn't have diffent modes anymore and the profiles are
completely separate for storing those items.

Hope this helps!

Thank You.
